- Need help. I have a Packard Bell (forgot exact model) Pentium 60,
- 16 MB RAM, 540 MB hard disk, DOS 6.2, Windows for Workgroups 3.11,
- 2x cd rom, soundblaster compatible card, internal 14.4 modem.
-
- This weekend, I bought an internal 28.8 modem made by Boca. Opened
- the case and was surprised to discover than PB had installed a single
- expansion card that has the 14.4 modem, cd rom controller, and speaker
- hardware on it. So, simply pulling this card to get rid of the 14.4
- modem is not an option. So, I gave up on installing the 28.8 modem and
- wanted to put things back the way they were so the 14.4 modem will work.
-
- Now, the 14.4 modem will not dial the phone and hangs up whatever comm
- program I use. (And I mean a hard hangup... must hit reset button to
- start computer again.) This problem happens with the Windows terminal app,
- the AOL software, and my Trumpet Winsock application. There is no message
- shown, just a hard "freeze". Microsoft Diagnostics (msd.exe) does not
- report any problem. Same with the program Checkit. The IRQs, base hardware
- addresses, etc. seem OK... no obvious conflicts. Any ideas?
-
- Secondly, how can I get the 28.8 modem to work given the expansion card
- configuration I mentioned above?
-
- Thanks,
- Kevin Gregg
